The Project

I have decided to build a Caterham 170S – the smallest and presumably simplest of all the Caterham fleet.

This blog was really created as a place to dump thoughts and experiences, mostly for my own benefit. If anyone finds them interesting, entertaining or useful, so much the better.

I have never done a build like this before but used to enjoy tinkering with cars when I was a teenager. Indeed, for the last 15 years, I haven’t actually owned a car.

So I take this on with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.

Please note that I am certainly not an expert in this so don’t take what I have written as infallible. I cannot guarantee that I have done everything totally correctly. The build section of this blog was written as I went and includes some notes in square brackets that document things I should have done differently.

I am indebted to those who have gone before me and provided their guidance on how to do a 170 Build. If you are up for this challenge, and I can highly recommend it, I have included the costs, tools needed, stuff-ups etc under the ‘overview’ tab.
