Day Five -Lights and ARB

Time spent: 3h
Culmulative time: 24h
Main activities: starting the lights and anti roll bar

The assembly guide suggests the lights as the next task. Well, this was expected to be the big one – all the blogs say this is one of the most difficult jobs on The Project.

I spent quite a length of time trying to understand the process (this is definitely one where some words to go with the Assembly Guide would be helpful).  This was really helpful to explain the what needs doing.

I think I now know what to do and got as far as applying the IVA trim (never realised before that the indicator pods are open to the atmosphere below).  I then found that I didn’t have any heat shrink sleeve or the required grommets.

So email off to the Factory to ask for these.

With that job not being doable, I decided to have a go at the anti-roll bar (ARB).  A quick spray with the silicone lube meant that getting the rubber bits installed was a doddle.

It seems strange that you need to file down parts to get them to fit but that was clearly needed for the ball ends that screw onto the ends of the ARB.  The Assembly Guide indicates that this filing is to do with removing flash from around the middle of the ball end but these balls had a groove at the equator rather than a bulge.

Careful not to take off too much with the file I kept trying test fits with the ball end fixed to the ARB, filling off small amounts of plastic each time.  I probably hadn’t appreciated the leverage that the ARB gives you and as I result, I managed to break one of the balls in two whilst trying to test-fit it into the socket on the suspension system.

So at that point, I decided to stop and wait for the factory to get me a replacement.
