My 170S Build

A newbie tries his hand at building a car

I did this!

If you get a factory-built car, they provide a small plaque to go on the pedal box to highlight the staff who put the car together.

I thought it would be nice to do the same to record my efforts (see also David White’s blog). Fortunately, I have a daughter who is a professional designer so she made the sign up for me digitally and I then got the graphic printed onto an aluminum plaque. I did look to get it engraved but the trophy shops I spoke to didn’t seem all that keen.

In the end it cost me £35 to get the plaque made up (including postage). I just sent in the artwork online and a week later, the plaque arrived. I have stuck it on with adhesive pads.

The plaque is meant to be suitable for outdoor use so hopefully will last a reasonable time under the bonnet.

I am happy to share the artwork if anyone wants to use it as the basis of their own plaque.

Many thanks for your build blog; it was really helpful and saved quite a few issues (along with about a thousand e-mails to Lee at Caterham!). My own 170S is due back tomorrow from its successful IVA. It would be great if you could share the plaque design.

Hi Matthew. Congrats on the build and the success at the IVA. If you can send me your email address, I will forward the artwork to you (I will make sure that your email stays hidden on my blog site)

    Hi Nick,

I wanted to say a massive thanks for compiling such a comprehensive blog. It proved invaluable in completing my own 170s self build last year!

I would like to get a self build plaque. Do you still have the artwork and if so could you share that with me?

    Thanks,

    Chris
